CLOUD PICKER’S STORY:

Established in 2013 by Frank Kavanagh & Peter Sztal. Having worked in graphic design and corporate banking respectively, we took the leap and opened up our own coffee roastery. Our coffee isn’t just roasted in Dublin, it’s chosen for its personality which means we go beyond the usual places to find it.

ETHICAL GROWING TECHNIQUES/PRACTICES:

Our coffee is sourced through a number of trusted importers who develop long-term working relationships with farms and farming co-operatives in coffee growing countries. These relationships provide the stability needed for smallholder coffee farmers with limited means to be able to plan with some financial security. There are a number of schemes in place to support these groups in addition to environmental measures: these include access to credit, subsidised seedlings and education. After cupping coffee samples, we make a decision on which coffee we want to buy in and roast, either for single origin or as a blend component. We keep a record of all roasting data which means that when we cup the roasted beans, we know what can be tweaked to bring out the most in each bean. When we are happy, this roasting data then provides a template so we can repeat each roasting profile with great consistency. Regular tasting of our production roasts is our key to keeping quality and consistency as high as possible.
